Liguori Takes 2016 CPA Awards for Magazine, Marriage-Prep, Popular Book
The Catholic Press Association (CPA) affirmed the excellence of Liguori’s magazine, books, and marriage-preparation program, honoring the publisher with 11 awards at the 2016 CPA awards presentation June 3 in St. Louis.
The awards included:
First Place in General Excellence for a National General Interest Magazine to Liguorian

Third Place in Book Awards, Family Life category, to Family, the Church, and the Real World
Second Place in Book Awards, Marriage category, to Your Marriage sacrament-preparation program
“Liguori is delighted to be honored with awards from the Catholic Press Association,” said Virgil Tipton, Liguori's publisher. “In all of our work—as demonstrated by Liguorian, by Your Marriage and by Family, Church, and the Real World—we strive to speak in the clear and honest voice of the Redemptorists about the richness and value of our faith.”
“We’re thrilled that Liguorian has earned top honors from its peer organization,” said editor Elizabeth Herzing. “Winning the General Excellence award confirms that we are connecting with Catholics on an intimate level, in the joys and pains of their lives, and are helping them to use their faith to grow in all times and seasons.”
“Liguorian carefully provides assistance in living a faith-filled Catholic life,” noted the judges for the National General Interest Magazine award. They further cited, “The issues were varied and imaginative. Excellent writing and design dominated. … variety of covers and richness of ideas.”
They especially noted “Ferguson: Healing Amid Heartbreak,” a story “which was touching, intelligent, well-reported and well-written, and set a standard through its reporting of a community riven by strife but demonstrating how Catholic principles triumphed.”
“Without delving into deep theology, Liguorian carefully provides assistance in living a faith-filled Catholic life,” the judges said.

The judges praised the book as “An inspiring, practical and insightful multi-author guide for family life rooted in a God-love that binds, builds and refreshes while moving outward to bolster Church and society. Easy and comfortable reading, nicely poetic, Scripture based.”
In the category of Family Life, the judges added, “This would be a wonderful book for a group discussion of young married couples with children, such as a young adult group in a parish.”
Your Marriage Sacrament Preparation Program Receives Award
Your Marriage took Second Place in the category of the Sacrament of Marriage. The judges lauded Liguori’s sacrament-preparation program as “very well done. It discusses the many aspects of a Catholic faith-based marital relationship.” Deborah Meister is the editor.
