The benefits of living separately before marriage receive little attention or acknowledgment. With cohabitation preceding more than 60 percent of first marriages—compared to almost none a half-century ago—it’s no wonder premarital cohabitation is taken as the norm in American culture.

We understand your concerns about addressing this sensitive topic with couples preparing for marriage. That’s why we devoted an entire chapter to it in our new Your Marriage and Tu Matrimonio program and suggest you use it with all couples, whether they’re living together prior to marriage or not.
