Spiritual Connection: Popular Author Kate Basi Says: What We’re Doing Is Hard, But God Will Use the Time to Our Benefit!

Popular author Kathleen M. (Kate) Basi, author of Novena Meditations for the Wounded, offers these thoughts about using the time you have under the COVID-19 stay-at-home order in this video.

First, Basi said, approach this time as an “extended Sabbath. We all need a Sabbath and we very rarely get one.” As a mother who likes to fill up the “crevices of the day” with productivity and purpose, Basi suggests we shouldn’t fill up all our time with activities, “no matter how praiseworthy they are.”

Second, Basi said we should “focus on learning to love each other better.”

Third, Basi said to remember that God did not do this COVID-19 thing to “but He will use the time to our benefit if we give him the space to do it.”

If you are looking for activities with purpose for your children while they are at home, Basi offers This Little Light of Mine, which helps children learn the Beatitudes and Ten Commandments; and An Examination of Conscience for Children in both English and in Spanish as Examen de Consciencia para Niños.

Basi also wrote the Catholic Update newsletter article, “The Joy of the Sacraments: Reawakening Active Participation in the Faith.” The article explains how to cultivate an environment in your parish that exudes hospitality and vibrancy.
