New—A Guide for the Scrupulous and Understanding Scrupulosity 4e
Liguori Publications has just published the fourth edition of Understanding Scrupulosity. Written especially to help those who suffer with the sometimes debilitating affliction, this book can also serve as a reference guide for the many counselors, spiritual directors, and confessors who strive to help them. The book may also prove beneficial to family members to help them better understand the affliction, which is actually a form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This fourth edition reflects the pastoral insight of Rev. Thomas M. Santa, CSsR, developed over his many years of serving as priest/editor of the Scrupulous Anonymous newsletter. It also reflects advances made by researchers in treating the disorder.
Liguori Publications has also released a companion book, A Guide for the Scrupulous, by the same author. This handbook of reflections and prayers can help to fill some of the spiritual needs of those with scrupulosity. While every person is different, some shared experiences and feelings common to the affliction can create obstacles to prayer. By identifying those obstacles and presenting new perspectives, the author hopes to provide encouragement when and where it’s most needed, perhaps by providing a prayer starter—a thought, a word, or an experience—that can help lead to prayer.
