Liguori Publications: New Leader, New Approach, New Location

Liguori Publications, a worldwide Roman Catholic publishing organization and a ministry of the Redemptorist congregation, located in Jefferson County, Missouri, has announced major changes as the company continues to meet the needs of readers in the 21st century.

Father Thomas M. Santa, CSsR, officially returned to Liguori Publications as its publisher on January 16. Father Santa replaces Father Byron Miller, CSsR, who guided the organization from 2015 until January 2024. Father Miller continues to serve the Catholic faithful in new roles.

Father Santa was Liguori Publications’ leader in the 1990s and greatly expanded its reach and audience. After two decades in a variety of roles in the Redemptorist congregation, Father Santa returns to a more streamlined publishing house that is geared to the modern Catholic audience.

“With the help of the Redemptorist community and the Liguori Publications team, I have reassessed what it means to be a Catholic publisher in a digital world,” Father Santa said. “Gone are the days of warehouses full of paper, books, and books on CD. We have taken the exciting leap into the digital publishing industry and are exploring new ideas and ways to interact with consumers in a meaningful and impactful manner.”

Part of Liguori Publications’ new approach includes new office and warehouse space just down the road. While the company will remain on the campus that its founders established in 1947, the publishing house will relocate to the former Redemptoristine convent, which will be more suited to today’s needs after it is refurbished. No move-in date has been announced.

While many changes are occurring, Liguori Publications’ mission—“Catholic, Pastoral, Trusted”—remains the company’s primary goal, reflecting the vision of its spiritual founder, Saint Alphonsus Liguori (1696–1787), a bishop and doctor of the Catholic Church who founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (the Redemptorists) in 1732.

“We continue to happily produce content that embraces Saint Alphonsus’ charism and draws people into a deeper connection with their Catholic faith through the written word,” said Father Santa.

—Catholic Update, a four-page newsletter on timely topics, is produced eleven times a year.

—The free Scrupulous Anonymous newsletter for Catholics with scrupulosity is published monthly.

—Numerous books and pamphlets on a variety of subjects are available.
