Author Cathy Gilmore Strives to Keep the Focus on Baby Jesus This Advent

“When my kids were little I used to tease them,” said Gilmore. “When they sang secular Christmas songs, I would ask them, ‘Now where is the baby Jesus in that song?’”

It was that same love of the baby Jesus that first inspired her to share the story of how Lemi, the lamb, encountered him in the Bethlehem in Little Lamb Finds Christmas.

This charming, full-color book allows children to view the Nativity story in a new light as they discover the true Prince of Peace as a peaceful kingdom comes alive in the Bethlehem stable.

To start the Advent season, Gilmore helped organize activities for over 50 children at the annual Baby Jesus Party hosted by the Daughters of St. Paul. Her favorite activity for this year was an exercise about the gifts of the wise men.

“I have read that you can think of the gifts of the wise men as love, prayer, and sacrifice. So I came up with an activity where kids had to pick each of the three gifts to give to people that they love,” said Gilmore.

In addition to sharing the meaning behind the gifts of the wise men, Gilmore has been hard at work at her new job as the Marketing and Communication Specialist at the Catholic Marketing Network.

“Internally, I am focused on figuring out how to bring unity among the many wonderful, good-hearted Catholic organizations,” said Gilmore.

Gilmore is a St. Louis native and co-author of another popular children’s story, Easter Bunny’s Amazing Day. She is also the Founder and Executive Director of Virtue Works Media, a non-profit group that strives to help grandparents, parents, and teachers to inspire virtuous behavior in their families through the reading and entertainment they consume.
