John Vianney

Saint for Holy Orders
Barbara Yoffie, Illustrated by Jeff Albrecht
Read More Read Less

John was born in France during the French Revolution—a time when religion was forbidden. He desperately wanted to become a priest so he could help people to love God. Eventually he was ordained a priest, receiving the sacrament of Holy Orders. He was sent to the village of Ars, where a lot of people had lost their faith. He helped them to find faith again, teaching them how to live and love like Jesus. “Come to mass, and come meet Jesus,” he urged.

This book is part of the Saints for Sacraments collection from the Saints and Me! series of children's books (for ages 4-9). Books featured in this collection can be ordered separately or as a set (A00085).

  • John the Baptist: Saint for Baptism
  • Teresa of Ávila: Saint for the Eucharist
  • Philip Neri: Saint for Confirmation
  • Padre Pio: Saint for Reconciliation
  • Louis and Zélie Martin: Saints for Marriage
  • John Vianney: Saint for Holy Orders
  • Maximilian Kolbe: Saint for Annointing of the Sick

Available separately, a companion Saints for Sacraments Activity Book provides coloring pages and activities related to the saints. With 96 reproducible pages, the book makes a great resource for teachers, catechists, and parents to use over and over again. Children can relive the stories and learn by participating in word searches that contain words from the stories, coloring pages that have pictures from the stories, and reflective material on the saints as role models. This is an excellent way to introduce the saints to children, helping them to understand virtue and the desire to live a holy life.
