What Does It Mean to Be Church?
This Catholic Update seeks to promote "a greater sense that we are all the Church." This article traces the experience of many believers from the Church's days before Vatican II, explains that council's teaching on the People of God and suggests several consequences of that shift in describing the Church. Presents the Church as sacrament ("sign of intimate union with God") and as a very human ("a bunch of sinners trying to make it together"). Father Friedman shows how the institutional, community and servant identities of the Church are related to each another.
