Mary at the Foot of the Cross

Our Role Model for Peace
Fr. Michael Rennier
Read More Read Less

Ever since Adam and Eve, the world in which we live is marked by original sin and violence. If we wish to find peace within us this Easter, it is not by meeting violence with violence. Rather, we should join Mary who stood silently at the foot of the cross of Jesus at Calvary.

Mary couldn’t stop the crucifixion, but she could refuse to hate or be angry. As Eve’s successor, Mary is our role model for finding peace as we fight violence this Easter season and always.

Fr. Rennier, a former Anglican priest who converted to Catholicism, shows us as we journey through Lent toward Easter, we should see that love gives way. “Jesus exemplified the greatest example of love by offering himself as a sacrifice on the cross.”
