Anger, fear, and despair reign when alcohol abuse is in charge. Chaos is the constant state of life of alcohol abusers and their loved ones. Life may feel hopeless. It is not. If you are Catholic and mired in the morass of alcohol abuse, either as the one who drinks or as his or her loved one, this book about a path to recovery is for you.

As a longtime Catholic priest with extensive education in addiction counseling, Fr. Ted Lawson, CSsR, writes from a solid Catholic perspective. He will use the common terms alcoholism and alcoholic in this book. “My aim,” he says in the preface, “is to define the crippling disease of alcoholism, describe its impact on the family, and offer ideas for how to get help. I pray that it helps.”

“This wonderful handbook on alcoholism is the best, most concise text I have ever come across in the over forty-five years I have worked in the field in the United States and Southeast Asia.”

—Marjorie Nixon, LCSW, Addiction Specialist and in Recovery a Day at a Time
