God's Gift to Us

In Amoris Laetitia, Pope Francis frequently quotes his predecessor Pope St. John Paul II, who gave a series of papal addresses that eventually came to be known as Theology of the Body, (TOB 1979-1984). Theology of the Body speaks to the inherent worth of us as individuals and of our bodies. Our bodies are a gift to ourselves, to others, and to God. Pope Francis said that the Incarnation and how Jesus was made flesh reveal that our bodies are indeed a sign of God's love. We see that we learn from how to translate our love from vague feelings into concrete deeds that shape the world.
