Liguori Presents Journey of Faith for Teens for Catechesis at Archdiocese of St Louis Deanery Meeting

Liguori Publication

Directors of Religious Education and catechists from the West County Deanery of the Archdiocese of St. Louis invited Liguori to speak about Journey of Faith for Teens RCIA program at Ascension Parish in Chesterfield, MO.

Once a month, the West County catechists and DREs hold a meeting to update each other about their programs. Robin Seiler, coordinator of Religious Education at Ascension Parish, asked Liguori to present Journey of Faith for Teens RCIA program at the meeting this November to inform other catechists of our easy-to-use, updated program.

With this presentation, Mary Wuertz Von Holt, the Director of Sales and Marketing, and Chuck Healy, Sales Manager, hoped to help solve a problem that many religious educators are faced with today: communicating the God’s Word to teens.

During the luncheon before the meeting, the West County catechists and DREs sat down to a delicious home-cooked meal prepared and served by the priests at Ascension Parish. The attendees discussed the difficulty of teaching teens who do not receive a consistent religious education throughout their lives. They find that many of their students only attend PSR classes when they are about to receive a sacrament, leaving a large gap in their catechesis.

After lunch, Wuertz von Holt and Healy spoke about a possible solution to this phenomenon. With the updated Journey of Faith for Teens program, Liguori hopes to make the already-popular program more relevant to teens and counteract these problems.

They explained that with the pastoral style of the Redemptorists, Journey of Faith for Teens speaks to teens using their own language. The program gives teens the facts they need to be informed about their faith, and the freedom to explore what faith means for them.

Journey of Faith teaches each step of the RCIA process: Inquiry, Catechumenate, Enlightenment and Mystagogy.

Wuertz von Holt and Healy went on to explain that Journey of Faith can help PSR classes as well as RCIA because of its flexibility: catechists can choose as many of the lessons they want to teach the subject matter they need.

Since Journey of Faith can easily be supplemented with other products, Wuertz von Holt and Healy completed the meeting by presenting the group with popular products that can be paired with the program such as Life: My Story, Catholic Update, Handbook for Today’s Catholic Teen and Handbook for Today’s Catholic.
