This Thanksgiving and Christmas, cook healthy and delicious meals for your family and friends with the help of From a Monastery Kitchen: The Classic Natural Foods Cookbook, Sacred Feasts: From a Monastery Kitchen and 12 Months of Monastery Soups: International Favorites by Liguori author Brother Victor-Antoine d'Avila-Latourrette.

In each of these books, Br. Victor shares many wholesome, tasty and simple recipes to help celebrate feast days, family get-togethers, and to make even the most ordinary day special. He couples these recipes with bits of wisdom, inspiration, reflections and anecdotes from his experience working in a monastery kitchen.

According to Br. Victor, “Monastic kitchens always strive for a healthy and balanced diet, fully aware from past experience that the monk and the nun must be properly nourished to serve God well.”

From a Monastery Kitchen: The Classic Natural Foods Cookbook, the first of Br. Victor’s series of cookbooks with Liguori, helps readers recreate these healthy, balanced meals so that they, too, can serve God to the best of their abilities. Holiday recipes from this book include Gaudeté Date and Rice Pudding, Christmas Day Bread, and Twelfth Night Cake.

In 12 Months of Monastery Soups: International Favorites, Br. Victor focuses on the monastic art of soup-making, following the twelve months of the year. The recipes in this collection come from around the world and include options from hot to cold, clear broths to creamy soups.

Sacred Feasts: From a Monastery Kitchen holds entirely meat-free recipes, and focuses on using seasonal produce to create tasty meals. There are recipes for desserts, main courses and entire meals.

Brother Victor-Antoine d'Avila-Latourrette is a resident monk at Our Lady of the Resurrection Monastery near Millbrook, New York, a monastery that lives under the rule of St. Benedict. There he cooks and tends the garden that supplies both the monastery and the local farmers' market.

Br. Victor has also written a seasonal and special occasion table blessings, Blessings of the Table: Mealtime Prayers throughout the Year, which nicely pairs with his cookbooks.

In addition to these books, he authored several other Liguori titles including A Monastery Journey to Christmas and Walk in His Ways: A Monastic Journey to Life and Light for the upcoming season.  

Based on the tradition of meditating the forty days before and after Christmas, A Monastery Journey to Christmas offers liturgical, biblical, traditional, or literary text for every day from November 15 to January 13 and the feast days of February 1 and 2.

In Walk in His Ways: A Monastic Journey to Life and Light, Br. Victor offers reflections and prayers for each day of the new year, focusing on his life at the monastery in New England.
