Liguori author Fr. Jim Deiters, presenter of Your Baby’s Baptism and A Child’s First Penance, speaks at the Belleville Diocesan Council of Catholic Women annual convention Wednesday, held at Immaculate Conception Church, Columbia, Illinois.

In Fr. Deiters’ presentation, “Revitalizing the Parish through Hospitality and Holiness,” he calls for parishes to reinvigorate excitement for the Catholic faith by creating a welcoming and holy environment that draws Catholics back to the Church.

The theme of this year’s convention is “Build the City of God.” The convention begins at 9:15 and includes speeches by Fr. Deiters and Lu Cortese, Executive Director of St. Joseph Evangelization Network, as well as a silent auction, Fair Trade, raffle tickets, and refreshments. Bishop Edward K. Braxton of Belleville closes the day with a prayer service.

In addition to members of the Council of Catholic Women, the convention is open to all. Altar sodalities and other parish leaders were invited to attend.

Mary Wuertz von Holt, Director of Sales, Marketing, and Product Development at Liguori, and St. Mary Parish Council Vice Chair, is attending. Liguori is donating our Catholic Update issue on evangelization, The Gift of the Saints: How and Why the Church Canonizes Them.

The mission of the National Council of Catholic Women is to “support, empower, and educate all Catholic women in spirituality, leadership, and service. NCCW programs respond with Gospel values to the needs of the Church and society in the modern world.”

Fr. Deiters is the pastor at St. Clare of Assisi in O’Fallon, IL, since 1996. In addition to his role as pastor, he serves as a consultant to the Bishop and is the Chair of the Diocesan Committee for Priestly Formation.

In Your Baby’s Baptism DVD, Fr. Deiters guides parents through the sacrament and helps them celebrate and renew their faith while strengthening their decision to raise their child in the Catholic faith.

Fr. Deiters explains how and why we celebrate the Rite of Reconciliation in Your Child’s First Penance. He teaches first penitents about sin, true repentance, and God’s unconditional love and forgiveness. This DVD also helps parents understand how the rite has changed over the years and recognize their essential role in teaching and modeling the faith for their children.
