ACP Announces Liguori Publications Has 6 Finalists for 2017 “Excellence in Publishing” Awards4/6/2017
The Association of Catholic Publishers (ACP) announces the finalists for its 2017 Excellence in Publishing Awards. According to the ACP, the goal of these awards is to recognize the best in Catholic publishing. The awards are for books and programs that were published in 2016.
President and Publisher Byron Miller, CSsR, said: “For our founder, Saint Alphonsus Liguori, printing was an effective means of diffusing the gospel to the greatest possible number of people. He was especially adept at sensing the religious needs of the faithful in order to provide pastoral resources aligned with their faith development. That is our goal as well at Liguori Publications, which is a ministry of the Redemptorists. The ACP’s recognition is affirmation we’re succeeding.”
Liguori Publications is recognized by the ACP for:
General Interest: Red, White, Blue, and Catholic by Stephen P. White. The book harkens us as Catholics and as American citizens to do more than just vote and follow a party. It shows us how to live faithful citizenship for every day of the year, not just Election Day. White said, “It’s really an honor to have Red, White, Blue, and Catholic recognized by the ACP. It’s a turbulent time. My hope is that the book helps readers better understand that the Church’s social teaching is a key that can help unlock the daunting social and political challenges we face.”
Children’s Books: Mother Teresa: A Life of Love by John and Marieta Monette. This whimsical, full-color picture book tells the story of how little Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu grew up to be Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Children see how we can all grow up to be holy people by following God’s will. This is the second book by the Monettes. Their first book, Francis the Pope for Kids, is a 2016 Finalist of the ACP's Excellence in Publishing Awards.
Resources for Ministry—Program: Journey of Faith for Adults, a Redemptorist Pastoral Publication. The RCIA program Journey of Faith for Adults welcomes adults of all ages and backgrounds to the Catholic faith and meets them where they are in their own faith journey. It is written in the engaging, pastoral style of the Redemptorists.
Resources for Ministry—Program: Journey of Faith for Teens, a Redemptorist Pastoral Publication. Based on the popular RCIA program Journey of Faith for Adults, Journey of Faith for Teens engages teens and gives them the facts they need to be informed about their faith, and the freedom to explore what faith means for them.
“The ACP’s recognition of our Journey of Faith RCIA program as a finalist for its Excellence in Publishing Awards is an affirmation of Liguori Publications’ mission to continue the approach of our saintly founder,” said Fr. Byron Miller. “The flexibility of the program and its respectful treatment of faith development for adults, teens and children, has made it one of Liguori’s most widely used parish materials for catechesis and initiation.”
The ACP said each category was judged by a three-person panel, which reviewed and evaluated the entries. First, second, and third place winners will be announced in June.
The Association of Catholic Publishers (ACP) is a membership organization of more than 40 Catholic publishers that provides opportunities for members to further the Catholic publishing industry, promote Catholic publishing and reading, and engage those they interact with, including retailers, pastoral leaders, individual customers, and staff.
