"I cannot be anything but Catholic. But I do not regret the years lived differently either. I am uniquely qualified to address the question of why remain Catholic, or return to Catholicism. Why not run from the doors in a time like this? I suspect that Catholics stay for many of the same reasons I returned. It comes down to authenticity, to living in my own skin, accepting who I am. I did not remain Protestant because I am Catholic. But I am Catholic now with a big fat history as a Protestant. I have been over the fence; I have come home."
